6 month old Colbie
Sleep
Colbie loves her sleep! She has always been a good sleeper, and even though I may complain at times, most would say Robbie and I are spoiled. Colbie usually goes to sleep around 6pm, and sleeps until 5am. I do wish she stayed up a little bit later so we could play and laugh longer, but at least Robbie and I still get quality time with each other every night. There are the rare occasions when she wakes up at 3am hungry. But it’s pretty simple—we give her a bottle and within fifteen minutes, she is back in her crib sleeping. Our system of alternating nights has worked out great. As far as Colbie’s nap schedule, there is none. Believe me, she lets us know when it is nap time. She usually takes three naps during the day- each lasting 1-2 hours. “Grumpy time” begins around 4pm. We usually give her a bath during grumpy time to keep everyone happy. We rarely have to use “cry it out” but even when we do it only lasts for max 20 minutes. She wears herself out, and it usually leads to an awesome nap. Last but not least, Colbie sleeps on her side and it is too cute!
Food
As you all know, Colbie does not skip a meal. This girl loves to eat! She still takes formula and will until she is one year old. She has about six bottles a day at 5oz each. In between bottles, she loves vegetables. I make most of her food mainly because I enjoy it, but also because it is cheaper! I decided to have her try the veggies before the fruits, with the exception of strawberries. The only thing she hated was peas, but that doesn’t surprise me. Robbie wouldn’t eat peas even if there was money involved! Anyway, her favorite vegetables are carrots and squash. When it came time to try fruits, which was a couple weeks ago, she hated all of them! I was really confused because I thought all babies love the sweet stuff?! Oh well, I guess I can’t complain that my daughter loves her veggies. Colbie’s doctor said that fruits play an important part in her digestive system, so we make sure she gets her natural sugars, whether it is juice or hiding fruits in her rice cereal. Either way, she still gets her daily nutrition.
Toys/Playing
Robbie and I love to watch her play. It is amazing to watch her develop and discover new things everyday. She particularly likes the jumper at this moment. It is actually her cousin Ethan’s that she has borrowed. As soon as we put her in it, she smiles and bounces over and over. She will grab anything that is in her reach because she wants everything in her mouth! Colbie has taken over the house with all her toys. I can’t tell you how many times I have tripped over rubber ducks and elephants, but honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing. It just adds to our crazy, beautiful life. Isn’t it funny how one can go from not knowing but one or two children’s songs to knowing hundreds within six months? We find ourselves singing along with all of her musical toys. Even when I am at work, I will catch myself singing Ol’ MacDonald or The Ants Go Marching. Colbie likes it when we sing along, but I wouldn’t recommend anyone else listening, hehe. Everyday she watches Baby Einstein. We have the complete set, so we try to switch the DVD’s as much as possible. When her movie is on, don’t bother trying to play with her because she will pay no attention to you. We call her movies “baby crack” because she is addicted. Books will hopefully be her next toy of interest. She loves to hold them, but doesn’t understand that we are reading it to her. She just wants to eat the book!
Personality
Colbie is all smiles for the most part. When she smiles really big, usually while daddy is singing “with a moo-moo here, and a moo-moo there,” you can see her bottom teeth. Yep, she has two teeth at the moment, and I think she is working on one from the top. She is also very outspoken with so much to say. She said “dada” for the first time March 29th, and it is basically all she says. Last week we were in the quiet waiting room at the doctor’s office for her six month check-up, and she screamed “dada dada dada” followed by a raspy growl. Of course every one turns our way and laughs. It was hilarious—she definitely knows how to be the center of attention! I guess she gets that from her momma. Colbie is a curious baby for the most part. She wants to touch and see everything. I guess she is at the age of discovery, so I hope this “put everything in the mouth” stage is beneficial in some way!
Milestones/Other
Colbie is sitting by herself, but no more than ten minutes at a time. It seems like she gets distracted or tired and then falls down. We will continue to work with her and hopefully she will soon be able to sit and play for a long time. She can finally hold her bottles and feed herself. This means I can be more productive during feeding times! Maybe do some dishes or laundry, while she drinks her bottle (all while keeping a close eye on her of course). She does try to grab the spoon while eating veggies, but I would rather avoid that mess! Plus, she doesn’t have the best hand-mouth coordination, so the spoon full of squash would end up in her eyes, or on her cheeks. As far as crawling…I don’t know if she will or not. She isn’t even close! She hates being on her stomach and would rather stand than sit. So maybe she will skip crawling, who knows. Speaking of standing, she is very good at it. She can stand (while gripped) and hold onto things for quite a while. I think she thinks she is on top of the world when she is standing because she gets very excited and proud of herself.
